Planned and Legacy Giving

Planned Gifts

Oftentimes through a planned gift, or by including the Belton Educational Foundation in your will, you are able to make a gift that will have a more substantial impact.  There are many options available in terms of planned giving; you may choose to give to the Foundation with gifts of property, appreciated stock and retirement plans, including 401ks, IRAs and pension plans.  In many cases, there can be great tax advantages in these types of giving, allowing you to make a greater contribution to help students achieve their full potential.

Gifts through a Bequest

Gifts through bequests are common forms of legacy giving.  You may choose to leave a specific dollar amount to the Foundation or a percentage of your estate. Oftentimes, this type of gift can reduce your estate taxes.  If you already have a will, updating it is as simple as adding a one or two page document to your will called a codicil.

Sample legal language for a bequest: I give, devise and bequeath to Belton Educational Foundation, TIN#43-1942967, a Missouri nonprofit, (one of the following) ___ percent of my estate, the sum of ____, or the residue of my estate.

Gifts of Life Insurance

Maybe you own an existing life insurance policy with a payment that you would no longer like to carry. If this policy has a cash value, you can make the Belton Educational Foundation both the owner and beneficiary and receive a tax deduction for the cash surrender value of the policy.  You can also make the Belton Educational Foundation the beneficiary or one of the beneficiaries of an existing or new policy that you purchase and make payments on.

If you plan on leaving a legacy gift for the Belton Educational Foundation, please let us know so we can celebrate with you and assist you in planning how your gift can make the most impact.

For further information or to notify us of your intent, please contact Sonja Abdelgawad, Executive Director at (816) 348-1151 or at sabdelgawad@bsd124.org.

Designated or Undesignated Giving

You can give your gift to any specific program of the Foundation or leave it undesignated and we will use it in our greatest area of need.

Honor/Memorial Giving

You can make a gift in honor or in memory of someone.  If you provide the name of an individual to notify of your gift, we will let them know that you have made a gift in honor/memory of the individual you designated.

Sponsorship

We have sponsorship options available each year.  Sponsorship benefits vary per sponsor level.  Click here to go to our Pirate Foundation Sponsorship page, our Event Sponsorship page, or our Helping Children Grow Sponsorship page.  Contact our office for further information.

Organization Partnerships

The Belton Educational Foundation is always looking to establish new partnerships that benefit our students.  If you or your organization have an idea or would like to learn about our current programs and how you can help increase their impact, please contact us.

Endowing a Program or Scholarship

The Belton Educational Foundation is continually pursuing philanthropy through endowments.  These gifts can be designated to ensure perpetuity of a specific program or scholarship.  Naming opportunities are available for endowment gifts that meet certain criteria.  Please contact our office for further details.

Employee Giving

If you work for the Belton School District, then supporting the Belton Educational Foundation has never been easier! Use this payroll deduction form (also available from the Belton Educational Foundation Office) to have your support to the Foundation done automatically.  Fun Fact - In recent years 55% to 68% of BSD staff have given to BEF through Employee Payroll Deduction!  That lets you know that our BSD Staff value the work of BEF!

Corporate Matching Gifts

Corporate matching gifts are a type of philanthropy in which companies financially match the donations that their employees make.  The employee requests the matching gift from their employer, who then makes their own donation. Check with your employer to see if your gift can be matched.

Forms of Monetary Gifts Accepted

There are many ways to give to the Belton Educational Foundation.  We accept checks, cash, money orders, or you can make a gift online through our website or Venmo.  You can also contact us to learn how to make a gift of appreciated stock, saving you tax dollars and increasing impact.

Fundraisers

Major Saver Cards

Participate in our Major Saver Fundraiser held each spring by purchasing a Major Saver card (cost $20) that provides discounts and deals at area restaurants and retailers. Major Saver cards can be purchased online at MajorSaver.com/cards, from Belton elementary school students, and through the Belton Educational Foundation Office for a specific time frame during the spring.

All of the proceeds benefit the Belton schools!  The proceeds are divided equally, with one half going directly to Belton elementary schools and the other half to the Belton Educational Foundation to go back to schools later through our teacher grant program.

After purchasing your card, you can also access thousands of reusable offers on Major Saver’s free new app by downloading at the App Store or Google Play. You can also purchase discount cards for cities in thess states: (Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas).  These purchases will also benefit Belton schools and the Belton Educational Foundation.  Purchase cards for multiple locations and save even more!
